My approach to how I practice is pretty easy, in that I accept all clients as individuals. I work to ensure you all feel comfortable and safe in the therapy room and that you feel able to explore anything you wish to.
If you are in another part of UK or are unable to attend for therapy at my practice I offer online working via Zoom which is a similar service to Skype.
What can be expected throughout therapy in general
The first session is always an initial consultation. This is a 30-minute opportunity for us to meet, and then to explore what you’re wanting to change and why, what you want from me, how I practice. We discuss what I can do for you and, most importantly, to give you a chance to ask any questions and tell me anything you want to tell me.
During that session we will have discussed a way forwards and what therapy you would like, and we will then follow that over subsequent sessions.
What you can expect from me as a therapist
It’s important for you to know what you can expect from me, when you come into my room.
- I will always offer a non-judgemental, supportive, empathetic environment for you to work in.
- I want to hear whatever you have to share as we navigate through your journey.
- I will be congruent with you.
- I will always ensure that any work we do will be in your best interests and towards whatever it is that brings you to my room.
- I will work with you in a confidential manner, unless I have real concern for your safety, or that of someone else; in which case, I may have to raise my concerns with someone else, although I will always do my best to speak with you first.
- I will provide you with a receipt on payment, if you request like one.
What I expect from you as a client
My expectations of you are fairly basic and expected, but it’s important for you to understand what they are, and is part of how I practice.
- You will pay each session.
- If you are unable to attend, you will give me at least 24 hours’ notice. If you let me know with less than 24 hours, then you will pay the full fee.
- You will need to keep me updated on any changes in your medication, physical health or mental health.
Where I Practice
I currently practice in Ipswich, Suffolk, in a office on the outskirts of town. The office is quiet and peaceful, allowing the right atmosphere for therapy. There is free parking and a bus stop very close by. You will be able to come in, and wait in the reception area, and I will always come down and collect you from there.
My Therapy Room
My room is a small therapy room, which means it generally feels safe and secure. I tend to sit in the chair to the right of the door, and the chair to the left is for you. At times when I have more people in the room (such as if you’re under 18 and are bringing a parent in) the room will be arranged slightly differently.
Unit 73, Basepoint Ipswich
70-72 The Havens
(essentially, it’s opposite Makro).
I currently work in my private practice during daytimes, evenings and Saturdays. I have a variety of appointment times available throughout these days and we will look to find mutually convenient times for sessions.
A single session is 50 minutes, although there are some types of work where this will be longer, but we will always agree this prior to the session.
Coming for a session
If you come within normal working hours (9-5, Monday to Friday), then you will be able to drive straight in, park your car and enter into reception, which can be found in the main building. You’ll be able to let the receptionist know you are here and I will come down to collect you. You will be asked to leave your number plate and my name on the sign in sheet at reception.
Many of my sessions, however, are out of regular working hours, which means that the gate at the entrance of the car park is sometimes closed and the building is also locked.
Out Of Hours Appointments
Gate is Closed
When you drive up to the entrance you may be greeted with this gate. If you are, you’ll need to stop your car and get out.
Using the Keypad
The keypad is easy to use and the light will turn from red to green and will beep, when you have the code right.
The gate will then open and you can drive through and park.
Main Building Entrance
The main building will be locked but I will come down to reception at your appointment time and let you in. You can, however, use the code for the car park to also get into the main building, and wait in reception for me. The key pad to get into the main building is to the right of the doors, and is identical to the one on the gate post.
After Your Session
When you leave the car park at the end of the session, the process will be similar. If you do have any problems then give me a call and I will come and give you a hand.
