Applied Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or ‘Tapping’
EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique to give it its full name is a technique that has been used for many years to help soothe and ease emotional suffering. It’s one of those things that if you know about it, you know about it, and if you don’t, it’s totally alien and sounds confusing.
What is EFT?
EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique can be used to help someone with their emotions. It’s derived from acupuncture and shiatsu and using the bodies meridian points to heal emotions. It’s also known as ‘tapping’.
How does EFT work?
The idea behind it is that our energies are supposed to flow a particular way, but when someone is struggling in some way, then the energy can get stuck, or flow in the wrong way, and EFT is designed to reset the energy flow, thus easing or totally removing a feeling someone has. It can also be used to increase positive feelings, as well as reduse negative feelings.
Emotional Freedom Technique works by tapping on particular points of the body, in sequence, whilst using specific words, phrases, gestures, colours or images generated by you, the client.
The major benefit to EFT is that it is relatively quick and ‘easy’ and you can start to feel better very quickly. It doesn’t remove memories, however, it can heal emotions attached to them, which can give you space to address anything else you wish to address.
What can EFT help with?
It can be a great tool to use for anyone who is struggling with their emotions in some way, such as;
- and more
It can also be effective for people dealing with;
- Self-esteem issues
- and other life issues where emotions are creating a problem.
What would it be like for me?
For you, the client, we would meet and chat about what you wanted to change and, for some people, how you want it to be. Generally speaking, we might ‘scale’ the problem and work out, from what you were saying, how best to work.
The points that we would ‘tap’ would be some on your face, your hand, and the upper part of your body. I will always show you the order and procedure, before we start.
If you’re having hypnotherapy with me, then often I will use EFT alongisde hypnotherapy to give maximum benefit and provie the best outcome possible for you.
I can work with adults and children (although, for anyone under the age of 18, a parent or guardian needs to be present, and the client will tap themselves) for a wide variety of emotional challenges.
Who does the ‘tapping’?
As the client, it’s entirely up to you whether you want to ‘tap’ yourself, or whether you would prefer for me to do the tapping. Some clients prefer the control and space to tap themselves, whereas other clients prefer for me to tap on them, which gives them the focus to concentrate on saying what they need to say.
How many sessions of Emotional Freedom Technique will I need?
Most likely, you’ll need only one session, although sometimes people want or need a second, if something else arises. Equally, sometimes people want multiple sessions to work on multiple issues. For example, one week someone might come because they want to work on their fear of injections, but then the next week the person might return because they have to give a speech and are scared of that. I will always aim to give you the tool so that you can continue to use EFT after we have finished.
What happens afterwards?
Ultimately, you will leave feeling different from when you arrived. Often, people continue to tap themselves after the session, to ensure that they remain in control of their feelings.
You may want to utilise your new found tool for other areas of your life and, due to the nature of Emotional Freedom Technique, that’s something I can teach you, to help you use the tapping whenever you need it. I will send you home with a ‘cheat sheet’ using the methods we have worked on, so that it’s there for you to use any time you want or need to.
