DSC_0187 editedWhen choosing a therapist it is important to choose someone you feel you can work well with and trust. Hopefully by knowing a bit more about me it will give you an idea of who I am and how I work.

My initial background was in primary education, as a teacher, but that was not for me; I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t a passion. After experiencing a really rough time of my own and then my own experiences of therapy, I decided that being a therapist was a much better direction for me to go in. I had encountered some incredible therapists and also, unfortunately, had some disappointing therapeutic experiences. I really felt that this was a field that I could go into, and use my experiences to inform my work and make me a better therapist in the process.

I stumbled on hypnotherapy much more by accident, than design, and found it both incredible and fascinating. When I was seeking professional help, it was an area of therapy that had, quite frankly, always terrified me, but the more I learnt through first hand experience, the more I learnt through my course and the more I was able to apply it to people, the more I realised that my fears were borne through my own preconceptions, rather than actual fact. From hypnotherapy, I then learnt Applied Emotion Freedom Technique and studied BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®, whilst continuing to study and develop as a counsellor. I find myself now, as a therapist, doing something I never imagined doing, but absolutely loving it. I now work as a therapist (as a member of a various professional bodies, insured, supervised and DBS checked) working in Ipswich, Suffolk, and have been at my current location since June 2014.

Alongside my private practice, I work in mental health and am also working at a local organisation as a counsellor. I’m hoping to go back to university later next year to gain a higher level of skills and knowledge; all of which will add to all I am already doing.

I guess all of that means, alongside my professional skills and competence, I have a very real approach when working with a client because I have a deep understanding of the fears and worries that a client may have, as well as the skills and knowledge to help you navigate through that and achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve.
